Memorial Day is now known as the unofficial start of the Summer Season, great mattress sales, BBQs, and good times spent with friends and family in the hot weather. But while you are out doing all the things you love to do, all the plans you made, being with all the people you love to be around, please be thankful and grateful for our countries bravest men and women. They're out in some of the worst places in the world, fighting in a war, defending their home, their heart, their beliefs and their freedom. They are defending OUR home, our hearts, our beliefs and our freedom.
None of us are perfect, we do not live in a Utopian society, and War is a reality. Regardless of how you feel about war and peace, love and hate, someone you know is either in the war, or has been to/through a war. They've fought for us. They've died for us. They've given us the freedom we take for granted. If you don't know anyone who is or has been in the war, ask someone you know. They'll tell you how they feel and what it means to them.
I am blessed to be able to write this email to you and tell you what I think, how I feel. I'm thankful that I'm not afraid of saying what I think, wearing what I want, and being with whomever I choose. I get to see and spend time with the people I love, listen to the music I enjoy, watch whatever movies I want to watch, and eat what I want. I'll admit, sometimes I take this freedom for granted, but my mother taught me to think of at least 10 things I am grateful for every night before bed or when I get upset. My freedom is always one of those things I am truly grateful for.
I hope today you can teach your children or the children around you what Memorial Day is, I hope you can shake the hand of a soldier and say thank you, I hope you can reflect on what it means to have this freedom, I hope you can have a great day, and I'm so thankful that I can do those things.
Remember, change starts at home, and change starts with you.
